Spring Ambassadors

Meet a selection of Australians who believe in Spring.

Kamilla Haufort, 34

BA in Sport & Masters in Public health

Keeping physically active has always been an important part of my life – it makes me feel good, helps me to de-stress and makes me feel alive. Working in the field of Health Promotion, as well as being a Personal Trainer, I spend my life helping people to understand how good they will feel when they exercise and keep fit. I love seeing people realise that when something is hard work, the rewards and the feel-good factor that follow are even better.

David Spindler, 39

Former professional Golf Caddie

When I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, I took it upon myself to do everything possible to maximise my moods. The use of exercise is a crucial part of my wellness plan. I cycle as much as possible and find that my moods are significantly improved with regular exercise.

As an ambassador for the Spring campaign, I look forward to seeing you exercise your mood too.

Nadine Reynolds, 40

Clinical Psychologist (specialising in supporting young elite athletes)

I believe that exercise is an essential component in maintaining a healthy, happy and balanced lifestyle. Exercise will make you feel good, whether you are training to compete in the Olympics or just taking your dog for a walk each day.

Brendan Capell, 28

Australian Open Water Swimming Team 2003-2010

Regular exercise is an integral part of my lifestyle. Pursuing a healthy and active lifestyle has not only allowed me to reach the greatest heights in my sport of ocean swimming, but also to maintain a healthy balance in other areas of my life. I’ve seen amazing places and met incredible people who have become great friends through exercise. The Spring campaign is a great way to spread this message to more people and to assist them to “spring” into also pursuing a healthy, active lifestyle and the positive experience exercise brings.

Gul McCarty, 65

Writer and Australian Record Holder in Powerlifting (Masters III)

Exercise is a very important part of my daily life. It goes without saying that it keeps me fit, healthy and trim, but it also helped me in a huge way, through some really rough patches. Coping with issues like my sister’s serious illness, my mothers painful death from cancer and a personal relationship crisis would have been un-manageable without exercise. It helps me to clear my mind while giving me strength and self-confidence to deal with anything I am faced with. Besides weight training, I love spin classes and long power walks.

Claire Stretch, 47

Producer, Film Stretch

I first experienced depression as a child and after a few years at art college, I had a regular cannabis and opium habit.  Things quickly spiralled out of control.  I was diagnosed with manic depression at 21.  Things continued to go downhill until, aged 25, I admitted myself to rehab and started to return to full health.  I accept that I am one of the 10% of people who need long-term anti-depressant medication, which I combine with an active lifestyle.  Now, 20 years later, I walk all the time, and really notice the difference on days that I don’t walk.

A major challenge with depression is motivation – it can be a battle to get out the door.  But with the help of my energetic dog and my training clothes placed beside the bed, I can do it.  With Spring’s daily training reminders throughout September, so can you.  I don’t discount medication and therapy, as long as exercise is also included in my total wellness plan.
